Has Tiger had his “Phil” of U.S. Opens? | HuskerVoice

There is a busy week in the sports world.  There’s the NBA Finals, College World Series and the U.S. Open.  ESPN is going to have full coverage the first two rounds.  Tiger and Phil Mickelson are going to be paired up for the first two rounds with Adam Scott.  Scott just may prove to be the winner of that threesome, but I doubt it.  All eyes will be on the no. 1 and no. 2 golfers in the world.   Tiger will make his first appearance since the Masters.

Tiger has historically blown his opponents out of the water at Torrey Pines, but you can’t forget that Phil is from San Diego and he normally plays very well on the west coast.  Tiger will play very well, but whenever he comes off of a long lay-off he doesn’t play as well.  I think Phil will beat Tiger and redeem himself since his woeful showing a few years ago.

However, don’t count Adam Scott out of the contest between the three.  You could look at it a couple of different ways.  He could just be so intimidated and awestruck that he won’t even make the cut or he could let Phil and Tiger take on all the pressure while he quietly goes about his business and cracks the top ten.

It’s hard to tell who is going to come out on top of that threesome and not to mention there is a whole field of players and I like the chances of Mike Weir or Justin Rose.  I would like to see Sergio do something, but his putting is frustrating to watch.

I like Phil, but I absolutely lose it when he tries some crazy shot for no apparent reason and in so doing he loses a couple of shots.  His course management could be tightened up a bit, but I guess that’s why most people love to watch Phil.  That is if you get a kick out of someone self-destructing because he goes the most outrageous shots for no apparent reason.
