Nebraska Baseball Can Build Upon Success | HuskerVoice

JenningsJennings, Opitz, Dorn, Abeita, Weber, Herr, Pribanic all were drafted to the Major League.  This is something that Nebraska can hang their hat on and build upon this success.  They have a lot to be proud of, they were ranked in the top ten for the majority of the season, they ended the season with 40 wins, and they did it without an outstanding star.  They did it with teamwork, determination and shear grit.  Coach Anderson extended his time at Nebraska, but what is he going to have to do to maintain his position?

First of all, he did a much better job of managing these guys.  It appeared that the Huskers had rid themselves of some negative players that plagued the team like a malignant tumor.  It was actually enjoyable to watch these guys because they worked hard and they worked as a team and they never gave up.  Every game you always had hope that they could come from behind and win; they often had to rely on that strategy, but at some point that strategy was sure to end as it did at the end of the season.

Second, Mike Anderson has to build on their success and go out and get some decent recruits.  We need to get a couple first round draft picks and go to the CWS.  You can’t make it to the CWS without at least one great pitcher, a great power-hitter and a decent support group.

Third, you have to have hats off to the Nebraska fans.  They extended themselves throughout the year and even had a decent crowd during the Red White game.  It was nice to see and hear fans talk and get excited about another team besides the football team.

Coach Anderson, in my opinion, has not proven that he can coach in the big games.  At times he was a bit late in coaching decisions (when to use the bullpen) and appeared to waiver from their strengths when they were in the big games.  Stick to the game plan, play to your strengths and expose the opponents weaknesses.

Easier said than done, but you need some athletes that can carry a team and make some plays.
