Expanding the Baseball Recruiting Base | HuskerVoice

Recruiting is always the hot topic of college sports. Let’s take a look at the baseball team. They have some decent recruits coming next year, some even from Nebraska, but what about expanding our recruiting base.

Take a look at the pros, there are a ton of players from places like Cuba, Venezuela, Dominion Republic. We are always looking to see what it takes to get to the pros because if you have a few players that are going to not only make it to the pros, but make an impact when they go to the next level, you more than likely have a college team that’s in contention for a national title.

African American kids are either playing basketball or football. If they are taller than 6′2″ they are playing football or basketball. Their dad’s are watching it, it’s cool to play football or basketball, but it’s not so cool to play baseball.

Not so in Venezuela or the Dominion Republic. They play the sport year round, along with soccer (which could be a great place to recruit a kicker - more on that later). Just think of the possibilities.

Just something to think about. I’m on my way to the College World Series.

Let me know what you think.
